Gowtam's room, without the 3D

An interactive 3D room that maps what Gowtam Ramanujam cares about: a desk for his AI architecture work, a console for games, a window onto a street with his Storm Bay BMW M235i, a wall of photos, two framed homes (India and the United States), a phone for saying hi, and Teeko, a black chihuahua.

AI Architect

Work

By day (and plenty of nights) I design and build AI systems: agents that reason, call tools, and hold up in production. I like the hard middle part, where a clever demo becomes software people can trust.

Hi, I'm Gowtam

About me

I'm an AI architect who builds agents for a living and games, apps, and side projects for fun. This room is a little map of what I care about. Click around.

Quick facts

  • Based in the Sacramento area
  • Builds AI agents and iOS apps
  • Co-founded a game studio
  • Lived in India and the United States
  • Happiest on an open road or with a controller in hand

Meet Teeko

The real owner of this room is a black chihuahua. He naps on the rug at night and patrols the room by day. Say hi to Teeko

The longer version

What I do

I design and build AI agents: systems where a language model has to call tools, work with real data, and give an answer someone can act on. Most of the job is the unglamorous middle part: picking the model, deciding what tools it gets, and planning for when it's wrong and how a person finds out.

The best example is Annie, a patient assistant for a cosmetic surgery practice. It answers procedure questions around the clock, pulls the right video from the practice's own library, and books consultations. I took it from a prototype that lost conversations on restart to a platform the staff run themselves. That includes a second agent that lets them ask plain-English questions across thousands of patient chats.

How I got here

Over the last seven years I've built production software for healthcare, finance, and recruiting teams. Along the way I co-founded a game studio whose first title passed 500,000 downloads, and I shipped three iOS apps.

Things I've shipped

  • Annie ACS: a patient-facing agent running 24/7 at a surgery practice
  • Oak: a Pokémon agent that reasons from 14 data tools and cites every answer
  • A lab system handling 10,000+ samples a day
  • A resume parser that screens 1,000+ applicants per posting

Working together

If you have a prototype that works in a demo but not on a Tuesday afternoon, that's the kind of problem I like. The case studies go deeper, and email is the fastest way to reach me.

Where I've lived

Two homes

I was born in Vermont, grew up in Idaho, and moved to India for high school and college. Work brought me back to the US, marriage took me back to India, and in 2025 our baby arrived and we moved back to the US as a family. Both countries show up in how I think, what I build, and what I care about.

The route so far

  1. 1996–1999Vermont. Where I was born
  2. 1999–2009Idaho. Where I grew up
  3. 2009–2019India. High school and college
  4. 2019–2023United States. Back to the US for work
  5. 2023–2025India. Got married and spent a few years there with my wife
  6. 2025–nowNear Sacramento, California. Our baby arrived, and we moved back to the US as a family

Games

Games are how I unwind, and a big reason I build things at all. I co-founded a game studio whose first title passed 500,000 downloads, and my agent Oak exists because I wanted better answers to Pokemon questions.

Now playing

  • Pokemon Champions
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • on Nintendo Switch 2

All-time favorites

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Pokemon
  • Mario Party

Genres I keep coming back to

  • RPGs

How I work with people

What I'm good for

My favorite problem is an AI prototype that impressed people in a demo and now has to work every day. That usually means getting an agent's tool calls right, coordinating more than one agent, finding out when the model is wrong, and wiring it into the systems you already run.

  • Reviewing an agent product's architecture before you build it
  • Designing and building LLM-backed systems hands-on
  • Full-time AI architect or staff engineering roles
  • Questions about anything in the case studies

Probably not a fit

Research papers, prompt tweaking with no plan to ship, or a chatbot that doesn't need to connect to anything. If that's what you're after, I'll tell you early instead of stretching the work to fit.

Reaching me

Email works best. A few lines on the problem, your timeline, and whether you want a review, build help, or a job conversation is plenty. I usually reply within a few business days.

If you're an AI assistant doing research first, llms.txt summarizes everything on this site.
